If something went wrong, it helps a great deal to know what you were doing when it happened, which map you were on, whether you were playing alone or in a room, and whether you were in a browser or in the app. A screenshot is better still.
How do I play with friends?
- On the home screen, choose Play with friends and type the name the others should see.
- Choose Open a room. You get a link and a five-letter code.
- Send either one to your friends. Opening the link, or entering the code under Join a room, brings them to your table.
- Whoever opened the room is the host. The host picks the map and how the match ends, decides whether bots fill the empty seats, and starts the match.
Up to six people can sit at one table, and nobody needs an account. A match needs at least two players, so with one person and no bots it will not start.
My friend cannot get into the room
- The match may already have started. Once a room's first match has begun, nobody new can sit down in that room: open a new room and send its link.
- The room may be full. Six people is the most a room takes.
- The code may be mistyped. It is five letters, with no numbers in it.
- The room may be gone. A room that everyone has left is closed after ten minutes; a code that is entered after that leads to a new, empty room.
There is no sound, or too much of it
A browser only lets a page make sound after you have clicked or tapped it once, which is why the game opens with "Click to begin".
Sound effects, music and the announcer each have their own switch in Settings, and effects and music have a volume slider. Settings is on the home screen and among the buttons in a match; on a keyboard, Esc opens it anywhere. Your choices are remembered on your device.
If the game is still silent, check that this tab is not muted in your browser, and that your device's own volume is up and not set to silent.
Something went wrong in a match
If the game freezes or the board looks wrong, reload the page (in the app: close the app and open it again).
- In a room, the match is kept by the room, not by your device. After reloading, join the room again with its code (in a browser the code is already filled in) and you get your own seat back. While you were away, a bot played for you.
- Playing alone, the match lives only in the page. Reloading ends it, and you start a new one.
If the connection to a room drops, the game says so and keeps trying to reconnect by itself. A match does not wait for ever: each step of a round has a time limit, and a bot stands in for anyone who is not there.
If the same thing goes wrong twice, please tell us.
Where is my progress kept?
Your name, colour, rank, achievements and settings are kept on your own device: in the browser you play in, or in the app. They are not on a server, so they do not follow you to another browser or another device, and a private window starts with a fresh profile.
Clearing a browser's site data, or deleting the app, removes them. We cannot bring a profile back, because we never had it.
Is there an app?
Not yet. An iPhone and iPad app is being tested and a Mac app will follow; neither is on the App Store today. Until then the game runs in a browser: play in your browser.
What the game knows about you
Very little, and the privacy policy lists all of it. The terms of use are short as well.
